Federally funded awards for undergraduates who are citizens or eligible non-citizens and apply on time. SEOG is not available to applicants. Awards are based on financial need, and range from $100 to $4,000. Preference is given to Pell Grant with recipients with the lowest need who meet the financial aid priority deadline for awarding.

The  are awarded to students who are citizens or eligible non-citizens, and who have been regularly admitted into a degree-seeking program. Students who file the FAFSA are automatically considered for the Texas Public Education Grant. Full time awards start at $100 with a maximum award of $4,000. Students who cannot apply for aid using the FAFSA are encouraged to complete the TASFA.   is required for students who are considered  by federal guidelines. Students must show financial need according to the federal guidelines and register for selective service or be exempt from this requirement.

Based on a combination of need and merit, the   is designed to provide a renewable award to students. There are several pathways to enter the TEXAS Grant. Student must meet enrollment, eligibility and satisfactory academic progress requirements to renew the grant. Maximum hours or enrollment apply based on the pathway the student enters the TEXAS Grant program.

• Graduated from an accredited public or private high school in Texas; and enrolled in an undergraduate degree or certificate program at an approved institution within 16 months from high school graduation, having not accumulated more than 30 Semester Credit Hours (SCH’s) (excluding credits for dual enrollment or by examination); or
• Earned an associate degree from a public or private nonprofit institution of higher education in Texas and enrolled in an eligible institution within 12 months after receiving the associate degree;
• Graduated from an accredited public or private high school in Texas May 1, 2013 or later; and enlisted in military service within 12 months of high school graduation and enrolled in an eligible General Academic Teaching Institution (GATI) within 12 months of receiving an honorable discharge; OR
• Transferred into a public university in Texas with at least 24 SCH’s and a minimum 2.5 GPA; and received an initial year (IY) Texas Educational Opportunity Grant (TEOG) in Fall 2014 or late. 

Appeal Process: Students who do not meet the renewal criteria for the Texas Grant and wish to appeal based on extenuating circumstances must submit a formal appeal statement, along with a copy of their most recent unofficial transcript, to the Associate Vice President for Student Financial and Military Success at latisha.addison@tsu.edu.

The Texas Transfer Grants provides portable, need-based grant aid to encourage high-achieving students to transfer from Texas public two-year to participating Texas public four-year higher education institutions and select health-related institutions (HRIs). To be considered for the Texas Transfer Grant you must meet the following requirements.

• Be a Texas resident
• Have applied for any available financial aid assistance and show financial need in the semester which the grant is offered.
• Be enrolled full-time in the semester in which the grant is offered
• Be enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program at an eligible institution, no later than the end of the 12th month after the calendar month the student earned an associate degree.
• Meet satisfactory academic progress (SAP) requirements as determined by the institution's financial aid office.
• Have been awarded an associate degree by a public junior college, public state college, or public technical institute, and credit hours earned toward completion of the associate degree must:
  • Include completion of the core curriculum or an abbreviated core curriculum related to a specific approved field of study curriculum transferable to one or more general academic teaching institution.
  • Have completed the associate degree with at least a 2.5 grade point average; and have completed the associate degree prior to enrolling in a baccalaureate degree program at the institution offering the Transfer Grant. 

The Helen Giddings College Completion Program supports students attending Texas Southern University who are nearing the completion of their requirements for graduation but may fail to do so due to unmet financial need. The Completion Grant is designed to provide financial support to students who are academically eligible for graduation, but have exhausted their ability to receive funding from the Federal Pell and Direct Loan programs.

• Purpose
  The Helen Giddings Completion Grant was designed to provide a possible resource for students who are in their final semesters and are academically eligible for graduation but have limited resources as a result of exhausting their eligibility for the Federal Pell and Direct Loan programs.
• Eligible applicants will
  • be classified as a senior during the term(s) in which the Grant will be used.
  • have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher or the minimum GPA required for graduation in the student' declared major, whichever is higher.
  • be near the aggregate limits or have exhausted eligibility to receive federal grants and loans.
• Application Process

  • Attach copy of degree plan certifying the student is eligible to graduate this term.
  • Review aggregate loan limits, prior to submitting application.
  • Submit application.
